Beginning on May 1, 2020, in the State of Illinois, individuals will be required to wear a face-covering or a mask when in a public place where they can't maintain a six-foot social distance. Face-coverings will be required in public indoor spaces, such as stores. This new requirement applies to all individuals over the age of two who are able to medically tolerate a face-covering or a mask.

Newport Township is located in Lake County, Illinois. As of 2014 our population was 6,656. Since 2000, it has had a population growth of 63.10 percent. Our township includes the villages of Wadsworth, Old Mill Creek, Millburn, Russell, small portions of the Villages of Gurnee and Antioch, and a very small portion of the city of Zion.
Newport Township covers an area of 32.3 square miles (83.6 square kilometers); of this, 0.5 square miles (0.77 square kilometers) or 1.6 percent is water. Our township includes Sterling Lake. The streams of Mill Creek, North Mill Creek and Pettibone Creek run through the township as well as a portion of the Des Plaines River.
